Blood Ties Four Directions Centre is looking for a full-time Team Lead at the Supervised Consumption Site.

Join our team to help lead this exciting new program! Blood Ties Four Directions Centre are partnered with Mental Wellness and Substance Use Services to operate the Yukon's first Supervised Consumption Site (SCS) and the most Northern Supervised Consumption Site in the world (as far as we can tell).

The SCS provides a safe and confidential space for people to consume their drugs by injection, snorting, swallowing, and smoking. The site has one of the only smoking rooms in Canada, which uses state of the art filtration technology to provide a safe environment for clients to smoke substances. Clients can also access a number of wrap-around services at the site, including harm reduction education and support, referrals, snacks, drug-checking services, and harm reduction supplies.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the daily operations of the Supervised Consumption Site
  • Supervise, train, and support Blood Ties Four Directions Centre employees
  • Collaborate with Yukon Government health care providers on services
  • Ensure compliance with operational procedures of the Health Canada exemption for the site
  • Collaborate with the Blood Ties management team on planning, delivery, and evaluation of services of the site
  • Work with Blood Ties and Yukon Government staff to develop work standards, policies, and protocols and ensure they are up to date
  • Build partnerships and collaborate with other health care facilities, service providers, and organizations
  • Coordinate staff recruitment, training, orientation and on-going professional development for the Blood Ties supervised consumption site team
  • Oversee day-to-day staffing and scheduling
  • Maintain positive relationships between the site and the community, SCS management team and clients
  • Provide harm reduction training and support to Blood Ties and Yukon Government staff
  • Manage program operating budgets and resource expenditures
  • Oversee supply inventory, stocking and ordering for SCS
  • Maintain a quiet, relaxed, hygienic, safe environment
  • Greet clients, conduct intakes and ascertain eligibility criteria as per the site protocols for clients wanting to access the facility
  • Supervise safety of clients and intervene if needed
  • Intervene during any instance of overdose, including but not limited to injecting naloxone, administering oxygen, conducting CPR, and using an artificial defibrillator
  • Provide education and counselling on safe consumption techniques, substance use and harm reduction, and sexual health
  • Respectfully remind individuals accessing the SCS of the Code of Conduct and assist in de-escalation clients as required according to established protocols
  • Support clients and respond to their needs
  • Build a sense of ownership and shared responsibility among clients
  • Lead team debriefs following incidents at the site, including overdoses
  • Perform other related duties, as required

Required Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of systemic issues such as poverty and stigma
  • Good communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability and confidence to interact effectively with diverse and marginalized populations
  • Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team
  • Competent computer skills including data management
  • Knowledge of systemic issues encountered by Indigenous people in using health care services, and of health care systems providing care to Indigenous people
  • First Aid and CPR
  • Experience in delivering case management & support to complex populations
  • Experience in lay counselling in the areas of substance use and trauma
  • Experience in delivering harm reduction programs or working in a harm reduction environment
  • Experience providing guidance and supervision to staff, students or volunteers
  • Experience managing a budget
  • Experience writing program reports and/or funding applications
  • A valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Applied Suicide Intervention Training (ASIST)
  • Naloxone Training
  • NVCI (non-violent crisis intervention)
